I hope that everyone had a wonderful Easter and remembered the real reason for the celebration. Today we attended my father's family Easter (and as a side note my dad's sisters work incredibly hard for probably months ahead of time to create a day full of competition - games, trivia...The Frazee Easter is a big deal). Anyway my aunt Karen did a neat little activity with the kids before we got everything else going.
You take a marshmallow and that represents Jesus
Then you roll the marshmallow in butter and then cinnamon and sugar representing the oil and spices that were placed on his body as w/the custom of the time
Then you wrap the marshmallow in crescent roll dough representing the tomb and the stone making sure that you can not see 'Jesus' inside
Next you bake the rolls for about 8 min and when you take them out if you cute them you have a hollow inside and 'Jesus' is no longer there HE is risen!
They kids enjoyed making them and I though that it was a good little visual for what happened and how Jesus' followers must have felt when they saw that he was gone. Kiley did not really get it she was still looking for her marshmallow but it was good for Eli. The don't taste bad either kind of like a cinnamon roll.

I love this time of year...
The grass is getting green, flowers are blooming, the weather is getting warmer, and my children are loving being outside. With Easter tomorrow we have had fun with egg hunts and coloring eggs, but I have tried hard to insure that my children understand what this amazing celebration is all about. Eli's prayer tonight before bed made me smile.
"Dear God - thank you so much for dying on the cross so that I can go to heaven someday and God well I do not really know how you do all that stuff but it is just really cool." Then he says, "When I said all that stuff I was meaning all his miracles he has done."
I love my little man.
